Title: Statistics and Artificial Intelligence

Abstract: Artificial intelligence is a data-driven field aimed at enabling machines to simulate human intelligence, while statistics is a discipline focused on the collection, analysis, interpretation, and inference of data; as such, the two are deeply intertwined. This report explores their symbiotic relationship and briefly outlines their connections and distinctions.
Speaker Profile: Zhaojun Wang is Executive Dean and Professor at the School of Statistics and Data Science, Nankai University; a Distinguished Professor appointed by the Ministry of Education; a member of the Statistics Discipline Evaluation Panel under the Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council; and a member of the National Textbook Review Committee for Statistics. He also serves as Vice President of the Chinese Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics, Vice President of the Chinese Society for Statistics Education, Vice President of the Chinese Society for Industrial Statistics Education, and Vice President of the Chinese Society of Probability and Statistics. He previously served as a member of the National Statistical Expert Advisory Committee, a member of the Leading Group for the Tianyuan Fund of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, Vice President of the China Society for Applied Statistics, President of the Tianjin Society for Applied Statistics, and President of the Tianjin Society of Industrial and Applied Mathematics. He has received the State Council Special Government Allowance, was recognized as a supervisor of one of the “Top 100 Outstanding Doctoral Dissertations in China,” and has been awarded the Second Prize in Natural Sciences by the Ministry of Education and the First Prize in Natural Sciences by the Tianjin Municipal Government.
